Notes from a Peace Mela
A Peace Mela was organized in Jalandhar from November 23rd to 26th, 2004.
Over 650 people from all over Pakistan were able to get visas and take part in the mela. The mela was co-organized by Anjuman Asiaye Awam from Pakistan and Akhil Bharat Rachanatamak Samaj from India. Mahar Safdar Ali, the general secretary of Anjuman Asiaye Awam says that all participants enjoyed the warm hospitality of the citizens of Jalandhar.
The mela was organized through the initiative of such peaceniks as Karamat Ali from Pakistan and Nirmala Deshpande, the Gandhian leader, from India.
Anuman Asiaye Awam (Association of Peoples of Asia) was in fact formed in 1994 through the initiative of the Indo Pak peace mission in 1994 though the efforts of numerous peace activists including those listed above.
Today, they are at the center of organizing numerous events including this mela, as well as the Delhi-Multan Peace march.
