Crisis among Varanasi Weavers

The lives of over a million weavers of the famous Banarasi Saris are at risk as a result of insensitive policies vis-à-vis the WTO.

In a short presentation (Download file) prepared by Udai and forwarded by Lenin from the People's Vigilance Committee for Human Rights, the implications of these laws are presented. Weavers in Varanasi are now facing starvation deaths owing to unfortunate policies whereby they are being forced to compete with highly subsidized Chinese industry.
