Peace Cyclists Approach New Delhi
Nine cycling enthusiasts from various walks of life are bicycling from near Mumbai to Islamabad. A diary from their fourth week as they approach Delhi.
March 20th: Eight (as Shraddha is recovering in Delhi) young cyclists on the way to Pakistan from Panvel had rest day today at Agra. They move around Agra. They went to see Tajmahal, Agra Fort etc. All of them really enjoyed historical city.
When they reached Taj at evening it rained. It poured. Seeing Taj amidst pouring is an unique experience. Today it rained in many places in North India.
Shraddha is in Delhi as she fell down from cycle in Gwalior. She will be fine by the time other colleagues reach Delhi. She will join cycle expedition from Delhi.
March 21st: Today our young cyclists reached Koshi. Delhi is around 105 km from here. Today morning they began their onward journey from Agra and pedaled about 95 km to reach koshi. They could not reach koshi town as it rained heavily in the evening. Ultimately they had to stay at some hotel before Koshi town.
They also visited historical city of Mathura on the way to Koshi. They had discussion with lots of people on their mission in Mathura.
Shraddha is better now and she will re-join cycle expedition from Delhi.
Tomorrow eight cyclists, on Panvel to Pakistan Cycle Expedition, will stay little before Delhi city. They will be welcomed by PIPFPD in Delhi on 23rd March at 3.00 pm at Nizamuddin.
March 22nd: There is a saying that Delhi is not far. Our young cyclists, on way to Pakistan from Panvel, have reached Faridabad today evening. From Faridabad Delhi is around 30 km. Tomorrow at 3.00 pm they will reach Nizamuddin, where they will be welcomed by PIPFPD, Delhi Chapter and others.
They started today morning from Koshi and reached Faridabad pedaling aroung 75 km. Lots of programmes are being organized in Delhi to welcome them. They will be meeting students, media, civil society groups and others.
Shraddha, too, will join them at Nizamuddin.
March 24th: The day was hectic for nine young cyclists. They had a press conference at the Press club and then spoke to students at college of social work, Delhi University. It was a good interaction with the students. Though, because of examinations students could not attend in large numbers.
They had lovely interaction with some media people. Tapan, Ravi, Haris Kidwai were present in both the meetings. Tapan spoke at both the places. Kuldip Nayar too came at the press club and gave some important suggestions to nine young students including two girls.
Shraddha was taken to hospital for second opinion about whether she should join cycle expedition tomorrow or few days later. Doctor opine that she can join other cyclists from tomorrow.
In the evening everybody went to Rajghat and paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi. Later on, they went to Red Fort to watch Light and Sound Programme.
It was a good day for them.
