Show Your Support For Burmese Democracy
This week Buddhist monks and nuns in Burma began marching and chanting prayers to call for democracy. The protests spread and hundreds of thousands of Burmese people joined in -- they've been brutally attacked by the Burmese military regime, but still the protests are spreading. Related Links Here is a petition calling on Burma's powerful ally China and the UN security council to step in and pressure Burma's rulers to stop the killing. The petition has exploded to over 200,000 signatures in a few days and is being advertised in newspapers around the world, delivered to the UN secretary general, and broadcast to the Burmese people by radio. Please Sign This PetitionAsian Center for Human Rights also has presented an article highlighting the crisis in Burma. Reports have been pouring in that the Burmese riot police today used baton and tear gas against the Buddhist monks and civilian protesters at Shwedagon pagoda, the holiest Buddhist place in Rangoon. The demonstrators were reportedly beaten up while many were arrested. At least one Buddhist monk has been beaten to death by the riot police. The global community must pressure its government to act now. Posted by collective at September 30, 2007 04:05 PMComments
