The Unveiling of an Encounter
Tehelka magazine published a photo-essay showing an encounter.
Manipur is in a crisis of the state forces killing anyone in cold blood in the name of counter 'insurgency'. For many months now we are witnessed to 1-3 persons getting killed everyday in 'encounters'. A bomb hurled and a 9-MM found with the dead body. The numbers are increasing everyday. The state Commandos usually accompanied by paramilitary or Indian Army are the perpetrators of these fillings.
Everybody in Manipur knows about this fake encounters and cold blooded murders but nobody gets the proof. But this time the truth is out for all to see. This photo-essay by Tehelka is evidence. It also includes a list of selected killings in manipur from 2003-2009.
The sentiment is deep and manipur has been closed down by protestors in all localities, and the state clamping curfew since the last two days. Many who were leading the protest or participating the protest have been arrested.
This news and appeal comes from a people who need urgent support to quell the killings and the mayhem caused by the repressive state. This is an urgent appeal. Your attention and action is sought. All you have to do is to either fax, email or call the following person to bring justice and also to put an end to this killings. A sample letter is attached here. You have paste this to your organization's letter-head. You may also send this individually.
We hope that you will support us in this time of crisis. Please let us know to whom you have sent this appeal so that we are aware of your protest.
Sincerely
Jiten Yumnam
