Mumbai Activist Probes Transfers of Officers
5 Mumbai custom officers found to have overstayed in their departments in violation of Central Vigilance Commissionguidelines are now transferred.
Following a Right To Information (RTI) application filed by a city activist, five of the 10 officers are being transferred for overstaying despite having completed their tenure in the department.
As per a Central Vigilance Commission circular dated November 2, 2001, the Vigilance Department, classified as sensitive, should not be retaining staff and officers for more than the stipulated three years.
The Vigilance Department handles cases of corruption and misdeeds by officers from the Customs and Central Excise.
