Drive Against Bribe with RTI Campaign

A 15-day (from July 1st - 15th) 'Drive Against Bribe Campaign' aimed at eliminating the scourge from various government departments and creating awareness about the Right to Information (RTI) Act among the public was launched on Saturday.

More than 700 organisations across the country have come together as part of the campaign during which the public will be advised on how to get their work done in the government without paying bribes

People have to pay bribes or face harassment in their daily interaction with Government Departments – be it getting a passport or a ration card or a license or an income tax refund etc. So far people were helpless. They could only curse the system and do nothing. Each one of us has wondered whether there would ever be a time when our country would get rid of this curse of bribery.

Maybe that time has come. Now we need not pay a bribe in such a situation. We have Right to Information Act which gets the work done.

In order to communicate this message to citizens across the country, a large number of individuals, NGOs, a prominent TV news channel - NDTV and leading national newspapers are coming together to launch a nationwide campaign. During this 15-day campaign (July 1 to July 15, 2006), citizens will be guided on the use of the Right to Information and the making and filing of RTI applications by trained volunteers across the nation.
