Accountability Through RTI Spurs Action
A park in Bangalore was repaired in one day through RTI.
M.V.K. Anil Kumar, a member of Forward 68, a Residents Welfare Association in Bangalore had applied for, and received, information from the Horticulture Dept of the BMP regarding total cost for developing a park in S.T. Bed Layout. A cross comparison revealed poor quality of work & a disproportionately high sum spent on it. As he was preparing to file another application seeking queries into the discrepancies he found, much to his surprise, that a few days later the chain-linking fencing and painting of the entire park was completed in one day!
