The Land That Time Forgot (Or Didn't?)
For the first issue of the South Asian, it seems fitting to profile the first cities of South Asia. Mohenjodaro, Harappa, Lothal, Kalibangan and hundreds of other sites attest to a sophisticated urban civilization that existed in the region almost 5000 years ago. Urban centers have been located in a huge area spanning present-day Pakistan, southern Afghanistan and Northwest and Western India, making it the largest civilization of ancient times. Along with area, this culture exhibited remarkable sophistication for its time - how many modern cities in South Asia can boast of a systematic road layout and effective drainage system?
